February 27th 2019: V for Vendetta

Watching this back when it was released in 2005 was almost life changing for me. I know that sounds over the top for a film that seems to have made little mark on both the superhero genre and film in general. But the themes of freedom and persecution struck a chord with my 14 year old self. A dark and British superhero film was every thing I wanted at that point, and it didn’t disappoint.

Most who have seen this film will remember either the stellar final bombing of parliament, or Natalie Portman’s shaky English accent. The former is still one of my favourite scenes in film and the latter can be forgiven after the actress shaved her head for the roll, kudos. If you haven’t seen it, then it really must be at the top of your superhero watch list.
