Venom is a strange beast. Moments of enjoyment peppered over a bad movie. A weak villain chased down with a paper thin plot. Every moment Tom Hardy spends arguing with his alter ego is a blast. Some of the effects are actually quite interesting, the body horror like transformations of the symbiotes victims are visually disturbing, but changes the tone so swiftly you don’t know whether to laugh or cringe.
The film is essentially saved from itself within the post credits sequence. I won’t spoil it here but it should get most fans excited for a sequel. But should an Easter egg really count towards a films merits, probably not. But when it’s all over and the goo is all mopped up, Venom is an okay superhero film amongst ones of increasing quality. It may have to up its game for a sequel, if it ever gets one.
