February 15th 2019: Pulp Fiction

Pulp Fiction feels obligatory at times. I had the poster in my walls as a student. Played the vinyl soundtrack in my twenties, always sure of the films coolness. It will always appear on top ten films lists and it’s thrust Tarantino even further into the public psyche. I may have been young when this was released, but I remember the buzz around the film, like a cult phenomenon unfolding within a mainstream audience.

The film is crime, chaos, drugs and dance contests. Dished our to half a dozen beautifully written characters. Each in a very specific situation at varying moments in time. Some intersecting and some not. It allows a short glimpse into the lives of crooked boxers, hitmen and gang leaders, and how wonderfully mundane yet fascinating some of their conversations may be.
