This was the coolest thing you could watch back when I was 13. It got a generation of kids into independent cinema and made us all life long fans of Jake Gyllenhaal. The eighties setting with the doomsday backdrop was a key selling point even before eighties nostalgia was at its height. Oh and the soundtrack alone has a guaranteed spot in your collection.
Donnie Darko is a young man plagued by visions and prophecies concerning the end of the world. I’m still not really sure what happens and why. I could spend hours watching videos explaining its intricacies or reading about its time travel theories, but at this point I’d rather not ruin the mystique of a film that I’ve loved for its aesthetic rather than its plot for well over a decade now.
