Andy Dufresne crawled through 500 yards of shit and came out clean on the other end, and how each audience member goes through that 500 yards of hell with him. The beatings and rapes, constant mental and physical torture by those in charge of Shawshank prison and his very identity being chipped away from him as the decades tick by. But all those that have watched this film will tell you, when Andy stands in that rain in the middle of a raging storm. Your heart sings for a man that has been through the worst humanity has to offer.
Tim Robbins’ reserved yet intelligent performance could have only ever been complimented by Morgan Freemans wise charm, and God damn what a narration he gives on top of it. It’s held the top spots of most film lists for years now. It’s what most people can say is there favourite film and face little to no opposition on. If you haven’t seen it, watch it. If for Nothing else than Brookes’ short but touching part of an already perfect film.
