My partner once said to me that 99.9% of the time I’m me, but every now and again I suddenly begin quoting the office with such accuracy and passion that in her words “it’s like living with Rocky Gervais for a few minutes at any random moment”. While that could be a terrifying prospect for some, I never did ask whether she meant it as a compliment or not.
Life on the Road has all the cringe moments that made the few series of The Office (UK) such a delight to watch. It also has the heart that cemented my love for the show. Gervais is unpredictable, casually racist, sexist and seems to make just about everyone uncomfortable around him, yet you can’t help but root for the pug nosed gimp. The songs are just short of great while also being wildly inappropriate. Life on the Road may not convert many Gervais haters, but it will give plenty more quoting material to The legions of Office fans out there.
