The reason why we are still bombarded by two dozen shark movies every year. The original summer blockbuster and reason you get that shiver when you’re out in the open water. The monster movie that is far more interested in its human characters than merely shocking its audiences, which it still does effectively. what can be said that hasn’t already been said about Speilburgs classic? Nevertheless, it’s a film that has earned its continued relevance.
“Where we going?”
” Swimming!”
Butchery at Amity beach. Family man and Police Chief Brody is stuck between a greedy mayor and 25 foot eating machine. Throw in some of the greatest characters ever put to screen, including shark expert Matt Hooper and grizzled Captain Quint, whose hatred for sharks runs deeper than you can imagine. A few beach massacres later and three men venture out precariously to slay the beast. A great score that instills a sense of both wonder and dread, some of the best one liners ever and an explosive climax that demands you to be on your feet cheering. It’s the film you show to someone to make them realise how much of an effect a movie can have. At nearly 44 years old, this beast still has all its teeth.
This is still one of my all time favorite movies.

I love Jaws! The original shark film. Nothing made since stands up to it. What a classic!

I saw this for the first time a couple of years ago on the big screen. Even though it’s been parodied to death, the film itself felt fresh with some twists I didn’t see coming. It’s a legend for a reason.

It’s not far off the fifty year old mark and it still has the power it had back in the seventies. I’m very jealous you got to see it on the big screen!
